AAA games: Large group of staff, and a lot of people have the same skill set. Each staff member / artists they have mainly one big job e.g character modelling. They may take half a year or one year of work to get to a AAA standard. It's harder to get an place in a big multi-game company as they require already work as an AAA standard on a portfolio.

VS

Indie games: They typically have a smaller group of developers and artist, mainly 1 - 50+ people. The lesser people in the indie group meaning higher work flow. Indie games have a higher risk of failing which could mean that you lose your job or you don't get pay for you time working for the company. If the indie game company is in a bad financial state they might filed out for bankruptcy.
